In
a haze of feed back and dry ice POTVIN was born. The year was
1997, a time when rock was dead and metal needed a martyr. Two brothers
and Miss Shah stood alone against a bleak synthetic pop backdrop.
Using computers, samples and drum machines and by blending a fusion of
guitars and rap style vocals, the experiment 001 POTVIN had begun.
POTVIN’s scoured the land for a guitarist worthy of elevating rock to a new level, sadly all they could find was a recovering goth tinkering away in some sad indie band, after purchasing ‘How to play Heavy Metal Guitar’ book, Paul Scott slithered his way into POTVIN. Experiment 002 was now complete.
Ready to take on the world, POTVIN found
that the flight tickets were too expensive, so instead they
unleashed their full horror upon Dartford
Festival for the first time.
After two years of extensive gigging POTVIN recruited a second guitarist, Martin Jackson. After a small explosion in the lab POTVIN re-emerged with Martin on Bass and Jamie on Keyboards to enhance their live sound, thus 003 POTVIN had arrived. This experiment was recorded on audio CD and can be purchased on request. At the end of Y2K Martin Jackson decided to pursue other experiments involving biology.
Work on experiment 004 POTVIN started
immediately with the introduction of chemicals Y and Z (Lee
Turner and Bob Town). Bringing
with him years of experience, Lee shunned early POTVIN gigs, but after
a little persuasion Lee picked up his sticks and joined the band bringing
POTVIN into the world of acoustic drums. Bob likes cock…….rock, but POTVIN
are broad minded in their approach to music, after all they do have an
X-goth on guitar. Bobs big bass turns on all the ladies with his big throbbing………sound.
Put all these mismatched elements together and experiment 004 was complete.
More gigging followed including playing
the Kent Music Festival. POTVIN’s ever growing popularity,
unique sound and live shows brought
more and more followers to their shows.
Due to demand for more recorded material. February 2002, POTVIN risked life and limb by spending a week in a small room together recording their second demo. After lots of tears, shouting and Smells that could blind you POTVIN emerged with ‘The st. VITUS DANCE E.P’.
Beware the metal monkey for it doth stabbeth boy bands!
Despite the positive interest shown in POTVIN at Midem 2003, later that year they split up..... what a shame, they had something.
